The Early Mail - Mines Rovers Footy Club Race Day - 12th June 2016
R1 JR TURNER CABINETS MAIDEN 1200m 12:42
Capacity fields is the theme of the day and the first is an extremely tough affair for punters. Local trainer Rickie Brown has acquired ICE MAKER (2) for the gelding’s fifth start. The Discorsi three year old settled well back last start and hit the line in a determined fashion. Jo Azzopardi will be legged aboard the galloper today who appears an each way chance. Three year old REVVING TO WIN (7) has placed at her past two starts. The Merv Dellar trained filly produced a strong sectional last start when coming from midfield to finish third behind Mince Pie. The daughter of Charge Forward has drawn ideally for her run today. Four year old TINKER TAILOR (11) has finished close up at her past couple of starts locally. The Craig Wright trained mare has drawn wide today so expect her to settle back and reel off a solid sectional. The Kyle Stammers trained I’M GUNNA (5) has placed at both of her two career starts. The four year old saluted in a recent trial when well held over the 1100m two weeks back.
R2 GILL SMASH REPAIRS MAIDEN 1600m 1:22
The second on the card is a maiden event where a field of twelve will go over the mile. The Steve Wolfe trained KOSTYAZILCH (6) handed in a gutsy performance last start when sitting wide throughout and finishing fourth. The Musket four year old hit the line impressively after a tough run. A similar performance today should see the Albany galloper go close. Peter Fernie has GALACTIC RULER (3) stepping up to the mile today after an eye catching run last start. The three year old flew from the tail last start and one more stride would have seen the gelding win. Jarrad Noske has been engaged for the ride today. DANERIP’S GIRL (9) missed the jump last start when finishing second behind The Black Watch. The Grljusich trained filly saved ground on the rail and went down a narrow margin. She has drawn well today for her sixteenth start. BROLO BOY (1) produced an encouraging performance last start when finishing second over the mile. Look for the Heritage gelding finishing off late.
R3 ROOFING SOLUTIONS KALGOORLIE & TIERI ROOFING HANDICAP 1600m 1:58
The third on the card is a competitive affair with several winning chances. The Brett Mathews trained STANTON ABBEY (7) was forced to sit outside the leader last start when finishing second. A solid clip was set out front which suited back markers. TAHGEO JAY (3) comes out of the same event where the four year old saluted. The Vital Equine gelding has won three races this preparation and will be aided if the pace is turned on early. ALVARES (2) felt the pressure late last start when finishing midfield. The galloper is well performed locally and can place. CASINO GLEAM (5) is well performed over the mile locally and can figure.
R4 DOUG MILNE & FROSTY MARTIN MRFC HANDICAP 1760m 2:34
The first leg of the Quaddie sees our open gallopers step up to 1760m. The race appears to lack speed which will once again suit SATURDAY SKIES (3) who looks the likely leader. Tash Faithfull dictated the speed last start on the six year old cruising to a comfortable victory. ADRICAT (2) will appreciate the step up in distance. The flashy gelding was doing his best work late last start. RAFFERTY (1) has returned in brilliant fashion this preparation but is constantly challenged by big weights. The eight year old has not won beyond 1400m. WONORG (9) has been racing extremely well in the Great Southern and should be included in your selections.
R5 MM ELECTRICAL & DATA SUPPLIES HANDICAP 1400m 3:15
The fifth on the card is another competitive affair for the Class Two gallopers who will go over the 1400m. The Peter Fernie trained YEAH YEAH YEAH (2) looks hard to beat coming off an unlucky second last start. The four year old was switched off heels well into the straight and went down a neck when accelerating to the line. PLANET BLACK (4) did it tough last start when sitting wide on the side of the course. Expect the three year old to sit rearwards today and hit the line strongly. MADAME CHOISIR (10) has gone on with her good form after breaking maiden status. The chestnut has drawn well for today’s assignment. Last start winner WICHITA LINESMAN (1) can figure again.
R6 SALTY’S SURF & SKATE HANDICAP 1300m 3:550
A big spread in the weights covers the twelve engaged to go over the 1300m in the sixth. The George Grljusich trained mare DEAR DOROTHY (9) has drawn ideally for her fourth run this preparation. Renee Forrest will ride the six year old today where you can expect her to settle just behind the speed. Last start winner ARSENAL POWER (5) is well suited in the event with the claim of apprentice Fiona Bell. The Lonhro gelding sat prominent last start and fought off his rivals strongly to win by a long neck. ATTAMOR (7) is looking for three in a row at the track. The Dave Smith trained galloper has been dealt a wide draw as he tries to complete the hat-trick. Expect gun apprentice Lucy Warwick to settle the five year old rearwards and produce him at the top of the straight. HELLYER (1) appreciated the drop in class last start. The chestnut will carry 59kg today with the claim of Sarah Bonner.
R7 AUSTLINE RUBBER & CONVEYORS HANDICAP 1200m 4:20
A wide open affair awaits punters in the last. The Merv Dellar trained A BIT SKETCHY (10) is known for her gutsiness in racing. The Excellent Art mare flew from last on the turn at her most recent outing to go down a short head behind the inform Attamor. Expect a similar racing pattern today from barrier nine. Brett Mathews and Ryan Hill combine with GREYSTAT (9) today who is coming off some good performances behind some handy types. The four year old has drawn well today and should work forward early on. The stablemate RIO FLYER (11) is also engaged in the event and can improve at his second start at the track. The Oratorio mare will have the services of Lucy Warwick. The Fernie trained OMERTA (4) has been racing well and is yet to be unplaced at the track. The four year old has drawn off the track and will need a masterful ride from Clint Johnston-Porter.
