Bell excelling in the Goldfields
Promising apprentice Fiona Bell is looking to continue her recent success at the KBRC this Sunday.
Born and raised in Zimbabwe, the dedicated rider moved to Australia when she was eighteen and took up a position as track rider for the Giadresco stable in Bunbury.
At the age of twenty-one Bell, who has no family ties to the racing industry, decided to take up a jockey apprenticeship.
“I had to work for a while to gain permanent residency, after that I took out the apprenticeship as a mature aged apprentice” Bell said.
Bell is thoroughly enjoying riding at the KBRC, with the two kilogram claiming apprentice taking out the Neometals Rider of the Day Award last week with a winning double.
Bell guided Longschamp and Dark Royalty to victory, with Bell explaining that the latter was very impressive.
“Mrs Forrest told me to watch the replays, it takes a good horse to win the way he did but they were my instructions and it was very impressive”
Bell has a full book of rides at the KBRC tomorrow and is optimistic about her chances to continue on her winning way.
Bell is confident that the Gary Bowen trained mare Butterfly Kiss can go close in the Coolgardie Day 2016 Handicap.
“We ran into a pretty good horse last time out with Master Winks when finishing second”
“She only has a two hundred metre sprint so you have to patient before you hit the button”
Bell was impressed with the run of Ten Paces last start who finished third last start over the 1760m.
The Dave Smith trained galloper runs into the well performed Tahgeo Jay, however Bell is hopeful a positive ride can get the best out the Musket gelding.
“He’s very one paced, his last run was a magnificent improvement based on his run beforehand”
“I will work forward on him and if need be can lead, if something wants to take it up we can sit outside”
Bell has also been engaged on stablemate Zaba Zaba Doo, who finished close up last start at the circuit.
“It was a good run last start and his run beforehand I was impressed with him, so I’m hoping he can go close again”
Bell has three rides today at Belmont Park including Another Vision for her master Warwick Bradshaw, along with Drive West and I’m A Bluebagger
