Past the Post - Coolgardie Race Day - 3rd July 2016

A big eight race card took place on Sunday where the Coolgardie Racing Club held their first meeting for 2016.

The Railway Lodge Sprint was the feature race on the card where Mr Motown made it two wins from two starts at the track.

Punters who took the short odds about the favourite had reason for concern at the tip of the straight with pacemaker Prager six lengths in front come the turn.

It took some strong riding from Jo Azzopardi to reel in the pacemaker and salute at $1.70.

The 2016 Hahn Electrical Coolgardie Cup 4 September Handicap over 1760m was another event where punters had cause for concern.

The Fernie trained Tahgeo Jay settled well back in the event before Glenn Smith took off down the side of the course hitting the lead at the 250m.

Tahgeo Jay had to dig deep to hold off his opposition who were coming at him left, right and centre.

The leading contender in the horse of the year defeated Ten Paces by a nose, with a length and a half covering the first seven across the line.

Progressive type Besannrose continued on her winning way when leading from barrier to post in the Mick Pavlinovich Handicap.

The Ricke Brown trained mare has now won two from four with Natasha Faithfull aboard for both victories.

The Coolgardie Day 2016 Handicap was taken out by former Perth based galloper Terrorize.

The galloper was having his first run for Brett Mathews, with the galloper presenting well in the yard.

The George Grljusich trained Grand Reward was doing its best work late, but punters could see it would not be enough at the 100m mark, with backmarkers struggling to make ground all day.

Peter Fernie notched another win in the Boulder Parts & Towing handicap with each way hope Miss Kitwe.

Brad Parnham guided the mare to victory after a good steer when settling the galloper just behind the speed.

Parnham needed the victory to take out the Neometals Rider of the Day award.

Parnham rode a double on the card with the first leg coming in the CRC Life Members maiden when riding his father's horse Snitzalong to victory.

The three year old sat behind the early pacemaker Rosenberg prior to being extricated and going on for a clear victory.

French jockey Matthieu Autier tasted success at the KBRC for the first time on Sunday with the Dave Smith trained Mama Bear in the Allan Young Memorial Maiden.

Autier sent the Galante owned galloper straight to the front from barrier ten, never to be headed in the run home.

The Happy 21st Hannah Roach Maiden was taken out by Tinker Tailor who has been knocking on the door for several weeks.

The Craig Wright trained galloper was given a well timed run by Clint Johnston Porter, going on to win by three quarters of a length.

Brad Parnham, the only rider with a double on the day.

The Coolgardie Race Club will host its second meeting on the 4th September which will see the running of the $100,000 Hahn Electrical Coolgardie Cup.
