The Early Mail - Elders Pastoral Race Day - 7th August 2016

R1 EDJUDINA STATION HANDICAP 2200m 1:27

The first on the card is the staying event where a field of seven will go over the 2200m. Esperance galloper GET ROUND IT (2) was mighty impressive last start when lumping 62.5kg to victory over a similar journey. The Helen Harding trained gelding is a proven stayer and will appreciate the weight drop that comes with returning to open class company. Expect him to be targeting the Tatts Cup later in the month after taking it out in 2014. Last start winner KRONFELD (1) battled it out with form horse Tahgeo Jay up the straight when winning by a long head. The six year is now being set over longer journeys as we approach the round. SAVANAROLA (4) will have his first look at the KBRC today for trainer Darren McAuliffe. The Blackfriars six year old has failed to finish close up in stronger company this preparation. The grey is one that will handle the distance with ease, all eight of his victories have been 1800m or beyond. BLACK MOMENT (6) steps up to a suitable distance today at his third start back. The Fernie trained galloper finished third in the Kalgoorlie Cup last year.

SELECTIONS: 2-1-4-6

R2 ELDERS ESPERANCE MAIDEN 1400m 2:04

A field of eleven maiden gallopers looking for their first win today will go over 1400m in the second. The Brown trained RHINO BUSTER (2) was gallant last start when covering additional ground. The Danehill Express four year old has drawn the inside today and will be ridden by Matthieu Autier who has shown he can rate gallopers well on speed. ALL ADRIFT (1) continues to keep the bank ticking over placing at his past four starts. The Discorsi gelding has drawn barrier five so expect apprentice Sarah Bonner to work forward early on. The five year old was unlucky last start when getting gobbled up in the final strides. The McAuliffe trained SUNSET QUEEN (9) will have her third career start at the KBRC today. The Universal Ruler mare finished third last start at Pinjarra Park when overcoming a wide barrier, improving in the middle stages and running on well. LUNA CHIC (8) has handed in some good performances this preparation and with the right run the Peter Fernie trained mare can figure.

SELECTIONS: 2-1-9-8

R3 ELDERS INSURANCE KALGOORLIE MAIDEN 1100m 2:40

The third on the card is another maiden event over the short course which looks a tough assignment for punters. The Merv Dellar trained TENNESSEE TWO STEP (2) was gallant last start when fighting on strongly to finish fourth. The drop back to 1100m looks to suit combined with the inside gate. FOXY ROYALE (5) plugged away to the line well last start albeit being well beaten. Expect her to sit close to the speed today and kick in the run home. MESHKENET (7) will have her first run for Darren McAuliffe today. The Fath mare has had a couple of trials coming into this so fitness shouldn’t be an issue. SECRET LEADER (8) had excuses at her first start and can figure with the right run.

SELECTIONS: 2-5-7-8

R4 BARDI ORGANIC BEEF HANDICAP 1100m 3:10

The first leg of the Quaddie has several form lines clashing. The Damian Miller trained AEROZINE (1) proved a handful for Willie Pike last start at Belmont Park. The lightly raced six year old can sit on speed and although beaten convincingly last start if he can flatten out today he will prove hard to beat. CARDINAL HERO (2) fought on strongly last start when finishing second behind Bache. The four year old looks a good short course horse and can be followed further into his preparation. RIO FLYER (6) seems a non-winner but is always thereabouts. Expect Boy Hill to sit on speed with the five year old. MU MU LAND (8) will be looking to sit on speed and can place.

SELECTIONS: 1-2-6-8

R5 MT VETTERS STATION HANDICAP 1200m 3:45

The fifth on the card is a wide open affair with many chances. The Peter Fernie trained RIKKI TIKKI TAVI (10) has finished close up at his past couple behind some handy types. The five year old had a torrid run last start when sitting wide throughout and only being beaten a length. The Rickie Brown trained THE EXPRESS (1) had excuses last start when well beaten. The claim of Sarah Bonner seems essential in this event and if he can produce a similar run to that a few starts back he will go close from barrier four. BONAVENTURE (3) was impressive first up when hitting the line strongly. CJP will ride today from barrier six. ARSENAL POWER (2) has raced well this prep and can figure.

SELECTIONS: 10-1-3-2

R6 TONKIN FAMILY-TONKIN NEWMARKET HANDICAP 1400m 4:15

The feature race of the day has an excellent line up engaged. Seven year old FLYING TIME (2) will have its first run for local trainer Peter Fernie today. The seven year old hasn’t won beyond 1300m but looks one that will appreciate a soft track. Top weight RAFFERTY (1) will have the services of Chelsi Forder today. The now nine year old has won four from fifteen over the 1400m and will sit just off speed. DARK ROYALTY (6) was superb last start when annihilating his rivals in weaker company. The Joanne Forrest trained five year old has taken a while to hit form this preparation but his last win was similar to the victories we saw last year. The gelding is lightly weighted today with the claim of Fiona Bell. SMART AS A FOX (10) steamed home late last start to grab second behind Reflectance. The Blackfriars gelding needs a bit of luck with his racing pattern but is an each way chance.

SELECTIONS: 2-1-6-10

R7 GUNNADORAH STATION HANDICAP 1600m 4:45

A field of twelve will see us out on Tonkin Newmarket day over the mile. Last start winner STANTON ABBEY (2) looks likely to work forward once again under the instruction of Matthieu Autier. The win was dominant last start and this field looks no stronger. Brett Mathews also has BOARDING (9) engaged in the event who from a good draw can figure. The five year old finished close up behind Coco Cash two starts back before having to overcome a wide barrier last start when finishing three lengths behind the winner. INJECT THE VENOM (8) hurt its chances last start when he was slow to begin. The son of Hala Bek looks an each way chance in this event with a light weight. Last start maiden winner DON’T SPEED (7) was impressive when hitting the line strongly after improving in the middle stages. Randy Tan will ride once again for Dean Nazzari.
