The Early Mail - Sunday Race Day - 14th August 2016

R1 FIRST NATIONAL MAIDEN 1200m 12:42

A tough card for punters today with big fields the theme of the day. The Merv Dellar trained REVVING TO WIN (6) has been given a freshen up for today’s assignment. The mare has raced well this preparation and a maiden victory looks imminent. War Chant mare UNWANTED LASS (7) was disappointing last start when returning with an elevated heart rate. Jo Azzopardi will pilot the four year old from barrier five. She should settle in a prominent position. TENNESSEE TWO STEP (3) handed in a solid performance behind Adrian Makfi last start. The four year old has drawn the outside which will hinder its chances. Randy Tan will need to slot him in early. SECRET LEADER (12) raced wide at his first ever start and may provide value.

The second on the card will see a field of twelve maiden gallopers go over the mile. RHINO BUSTER (2) looks hard to beat based on his past few starts. He has drawn favourably today and will prove hard to beat after his dogged performance last start when tramping wide. THE DELOREAN (4) has shown plenty of promise early on in his career. The Time Thief four year old has finished runner up at his past two with a maiden victory not too far away. LUNA CHIC (10) produced a good sectional last start when coming from the tail to finish fourth behind Don’t Speed. Expect the Viscount mare to drop out again. ALL ADRIFT (1) continues to keep the bank balance ticking over.

R3 FIRST NATIONAL HANDICAP 1760m 2:04

A handy bunch of gallopers will go over the 1760m in the third. There looks to be a couple of runners that will want the lead in this which should suit CINCINNATI BOY (4). The Dave Smith trained galloper looks able to be tucked away behind the leaders and be produced at the top of the straight. He bombed the start at his most recent effort. ON THE ROPES (2) has been hitting the line well behind some handy types. He has drawn the outside which is not ideal from the 1760m start but Glenn Smith can weave some magic. DARK DEVOTION (5) finished off strong last start. He is potentially suited over a longer distance than today’s event. BOARDING (7) has shown some improvement at his past couple.

NUMBERS: 4-2-5-7

R4 LORNA SHARP HANDICAP 2120m 2:40

Just a field of seven to take to the track in the staying event. Last start winner KRONFELD (1) is the form horse of the field. The weight looks the issue but go back two years ago on Kalgoorlie Cup day he saluted with 58.5kg on his back. SMALL AND SPICY (3) proved himself a very handy horse over the middle to staying distances last year. The McFlirt eight year old has resumed late in the year and if he performs well may be one for the cups. BLACK MOMENT (3) is third up today. He hasn’t shown much early on in his preps throughout his career so keep him safe in the event. He is one that will relish the step up to the 2120m with the Blackfriars eight year old yet to win under 2000m. ULTIMATE SUCCESS (2) enjoys a drop in class today.

NUMBERS: 1-3-6-2

R5 DYNAMIC MAINTENANCE SERVICES HANDICAP 1400m 3:15

The first leg of the Quaddie is a wide open affair. The Helen Harding trained ADRIAN MAKFI (3) looks a big chance based on his effort last start when racing out of maiden company for the first time. Jordan Turner has ridden him at his past couple where he has dropped out and flew to the line. He looks a progressive type. BOLLYWOOD BLITZ (5) looks one that can work forward early on. The gelding finished close up last start in similar company. GOLD CLUB (10) has drawn better today coming off a midfield performance last start. The four year old has raced well since arriving in the Goldfields. LION CRUISER (7) saluted at handsome odds last start. He likes the track so keep him safe.

The six year old has won four from seven at the track. CROWN SAGA (12) showed her brilliant turn of foot last start. If they go hard early look for her steaming late.

The seventh is another open event where you could make a case for many. The Paddy Bermingham Jnr trained CARDINAL HERO (3) handed in a promising performance last start when finishing third behind Bache. Jordan Turner will pilot the four year old from barrier nine. PENALTY POINT (2) has won at the track before. The Demerit mare looks suited over the 1200m and has finished close up behind some handy types in her past couple of starts. RIO FLYER (11) continues to threaten without winning. The Oratorio mare has drawn well and is well weighted in the event. The five year old should settle near the speed. BRITELLA (6) was sent out short last start when finishing fifth behind Modern Touch. She is an each way chance in the field. Clint Johnston Porter will ride from barrier two today.

NUMBERS: 3-2-11-6

The last on the card is an extremely competitive affair. DARADALE (2) is a horse that races well fresh and he is returning after twelve weeks away from the track. The Elvstroem gelding will have to carry 60.5kg but we have seen his class at the track previously. The Paul Smythe trained COCO CASH (10) looks a chance at the bottom of the weight scale. The lightly raced six year old was impeded last start in the run to the line. BONAVENTURE (6) is second up today after a solid performance first up. He has won previously early on in his preparations so be sure to include him in your novelties. He is a versatile galloper and can settle forward or back.
