The Early Mail - Goldfields Toyota Race Day - 28th August 2016
R1 GOLDFIELDS HONDA MAIDEN 1600m 1:57
Punters have been served a headache in the first with a maiden having very little form to go off. The field combined has had 50 career starts for just four top three finishes. SECRET LEADER (5) is the only galloper that finished close up last start in the field and on that basis combined with an inside draw looks the one to beat. Tash Faithfull will ride the mare once again when having her third career start. SCHOOLS OUT (7) may add some value to the novelties. The galloper has been transferred to the Rickie Brown stable since her last start over three months ago. The Ad Valorem mare hit the line well last start down the Pinjarra straight when finishing midfield. FOXY ROYALE (6) will have her third run at the track today. The Brett Mathews trained galloper will have the services of Shaun McGruddy. The four year old ran some handy races in the middle part of the year. MIDNIGHT REVIEW (4) is yet to place from ten career starts but looks an each way chance in the event. Glenn Smith will ride from barrier five.
R2 GOLDFIELDS HONDA MAIDEN 1600m 1:57
The second maiden event is over the mile where a capacity field is engaged. The Peter Fernie trained LUNA CHIC (7) has placed on five of her thirteen career starts. The Viscount mare performed well over the 1600m last start when coming from ninth on the turn and being gunned down by Burkina in the final stages. The five year old looks brings the strongest formlines into the race. LA SEINE (3) looks an each way chance in the event. The Jo Forrest trained gelding was forced to work early on last start to find a forward position. The four year old finished a well beaten sixth but looks a chance based on previous runs. SYLVA TERRE (8) handed in a better run last start for trainer Brett Mathews. The grey mare has drawn the inside so may settle closer today. She has drawn well for her assignment. BESANNROSE (2) was sent for a short spell after failing last start. The five year old performed well earlier in her prep.
R5 P FERNIE – OH WHAT A TRAINER HANDICAP 1200m 3:40
An even field of gallopers will go over the six furlongs in the fifth. The Paul Smythe trained mare COCO CASH (2) was impressive last start when settling rearwards and hitting the line with a turn of foot that was unmatched. The lightly raced six year old has drawn wide which should not affect her typical racing pattern. ROADSINGER (6) is an honest type that is a solid each way chance in the event. The Bermingham Jnr trained galloper is well performed over the 1200m and will have the services of in form apprentice Sarah Bonner. ARSENAL POWER (3) has kept the bank ticking over this preparation.
