The Early Mail - Hahn Electrical Coolgardie Cup Race Day - 4th September 2016

R1 TOM CULLEN MEMORIAL MAIDEN 1400M 1:25

The first on Coolgardie Cup day has a field of ten maiden gallopers to go over the 1400m. The Merv Dellar trained REVVING TO WIN (7) looks one of the main players based on her last start second at the track. Jo Azzopardi will ride the four year old for the first time today. She has placed on four occasions from seven attempts at the KBRC. MY NAME IS SUE (2) produced a good track debut last start when finishing third behind All Adrift. The son of Casino Prince will have the services of the state’s leading rider in William Pike. Expect the four year old to sit midfield and produce a good sectional. SECRET LEADER (8) has finished second at both of its starts at the KBRC. The lightly raced four year old will have her fourth career start today as she steps up to the 1400m for the first time. Expect Matthieu Autier to work forward on the So Secret mare early. THE DELOREAN (1) has shown some promise early in his career. The gelding has drawn well for his assignment today and will have the services of Jordan Turner. Expect him to site in the first half in running.

SELECTIONS: 7-2-8-1

R2 SHIRE OF COOLGARDIE HANDICAP 1300m 2:05

There is no standout favourite in the second event where a case could be made for many. The Peter Fernie trained PRAYER IN CEE (1) was given a perfect ride last start when winning over the 1300m. The four year old was ridden cold before extending away to bring up his second career victory. The gelding is on the seven day back up and will have the services of Glenn Smith today. FOR THE FALLEN (4) has handed in good performances at his past two starts when placing on both occasions. The Neville Newton trained galloper has been sitting back in his races and hitting the line well. The Pentire gelding gets in well at the weights with Sarah Bonner’s claim. Speedy type BALROV (9) looks the likely leader in the event. Steven Parnham will have the luxury of barrier four meaning the six year old should be able to cross to the fence with ease shortly after the start. ADRIAN MAKFI (3) finished close up last start behind Moment Of Pride. The Esperance galloper is likely to settle rearwards as a result of drawing the outside. His form suggests he will be an each-way bet.

SELECTIONS: 1-4-9-3

R3 MORANS STORE HANDICAP 1200m 2:40

Formlines clash in the third on the card. Top weight DARK ROYALTY (1) drops back in class today after being off the track throughout last start. Despite the tough run the galloper still finished within three lengths of the winner. The claim of Fiona Bell will assist his chances. RIKKI TIKKI TAVI (8) is well weighted in the event. The galloper will have Steven Parnham aboard once again who rode the five year old to victory last start when coming from well back. RUN FOR RUM (7) has been racing well this preparation. His racing pattern relies on a bit of luck. His last start performance behind Grand Reward is more than enough to win this event. MOMENT OF PRIDE (5) has drawn well and should be kept safe.

SELECTIONS: 1-8-7-5

R4 TAPS INDUSTRIES HANDICAP 1600m 3:15

Punters will have to go wide in the first leg of the Quaddie. BONAVENTURE (3) resumed in the latter half of this season and has put the writing on the wall at his past couple. Based on his last run this big striding type looks like he will appreciate the step up today. OPEN ERA (4) was disappointing last start when slow to recover. The Dave Smith trained galloper has performed well since arriving on the Goldfields and deserves another chance. Expect him to be right on speed. Twelve year old ZUBOYNE (1) has had a brilliant preparation this time in winning twice and placing on multiple occasions. He is well performed over the mile. STANTON ABBEY (9) should be included in your novelties.

SELECTIONS: 3-4-1-9

R5 AUSLEC KALGOORLIE HANDICAP 1760m 3:45

A field of nine will go over the middle distance in the fifth. The Fernire trained INJECT THE VENOM (2) looks hard to beat in this coming off a second placing last start when hitting the line strong. The five year old will drift back from gate seven and be stoked up come the 400m. Last start maiden winner SYLVA TERRE (5) looks a chance based on the dominance of her maiden win. Although winning by a neck she looked to have them covered at the furlong. Top weight BURKINA (1) had excuses last start and should be respected. The lightly raced seven year old won in good fashion over the mile two starts back. Former Broome galloper PIGEON POST (3) has been racing well.

SELECTIONS: 2-5-1-3

R6 HAHN ELECTRICAL – COOLGARDIE CUP 1760m 4:15

The feature race of the day is the time-honoured $100,000 Coolgardie Cup. In-form mare I’M FEELING LUCKY (2) looks extremely hard to beat coming off her recent victories. Drawn in barrier three she looks as if she will get a perfect run throughout near the fence. She has the ability to sustain a strong tempo followed by a blistering sprint that will take some running down. DON’TGETCAUGHT (4) did his best work late last start when having to angle out around the entire field to obtain a run. The Ben Pearce trained galloper looks one to follow as he will appreciate stepping up in distance throughout the Round. Kalgoorlie’s form horse TAHGEO JAY (15) should not be discounted. He drops back in weight and will have the blinkers on which his trainer Peter Fernie believes will assist the horse. Goldrush winner GLORYLAND (7) will work forward early on and is an honest type.

SELECTIONS: 2-4-15-7

R7 COOLGARDIE TYRE SERVICE HANCIAP 1100m 4:45

A cracking field awaits punters in the last event on the Coolgardie card. MASTER WINKS (9) gets relief in the weights today as he steps up to open company for the first time today. The five year old has struggled to gun down his opposition with big weights on his back in contrast to the start of the season where he annihilated his rivals. From barrier five Clint Johnston-Porter will be able to give him an economic run over the short course. REFLECTANCE (3) was somewhat disappointing last start when finishing last at Belmont Park. He will appreciate the firmer going today and is no stranger to the KBRC winning here two starts back. PRAGER (10) looks to lead this field and his record over the 1100m speaks for itself. He may take some running down if left alone out in front. CROWN SAGA (11) was impeded last start and can figure with the light weight. William Pike will be aboard today.
