The Early Mail - XXXX Gold Kalgoorlie Cup Race Day - 25th September 2016

A small field of seven will take to the track for the first on Hannans day. The Steve Wolfe trained MUBALOO (2) is on the four day back up after running second at the track on Sunday. The five year old was shuffled to the rear of the field at her most recent start before finding room and hitting the line strongly. Lindsey Smith and gun SA hoop Clare Lindop combine with LET ME SHOW YOU (6). The lightly race six year old is having her second start today coming off a fifth at Northam when trying to lead throughout. She was beaten less than two lengths. CENSORY RULE (3) can improve on his last run today. GIBRALTAR’S STREET (1) can place with the right run.

NUMBERS: 2-6-3-1

A competitive field of seven go over the mile in the second. BOLLYWOOD BLITZ (4) has performed well since arriving on the Goldfields. The consistent type has figured in the top three on four occasions from five goes at the track including a victory. Expect him to be near the pace. COCO CASH (2) will appreciate the class drop after lining up in the Kambalda Cup last start. The Paul Smythe trained mare has picked up two this preparation and looks to have promise going forward. THE CRUEL SEA (1) is getting slugged with big weights in these events. He was gallant last start but couldn’t match the turn of foot of his lighter weighted opposition. CAROB (5) had no luck last start.

NUMBERS: 4-2-1-5

The third on the card looks the hardest assignment for punters on the day. The Neville Parnham trained MARBLE KING (1) gets a good opportunity to break maiden status today. He has finished close up at his past couple of starts at Northam. He will have gun jockey Brad Rawiller to ride from barrier two. SCHOOLS OUT (2) placed last start when never threatening to win. The Ad Valorem mare settled well back and hit the line strongly. If she can settle closer she looks a good chance. SNIPPETISM (4) will have his second run this preparation. He steps up to the 1100m today after finishing midfield over the 1000m last start in three year old company. ROCK RIVER (6) looks a place chance on recent trials.

NUMBERS: 1-3-4-6

A handy bunch of progressive types will go over the short course in the fourth. Ross Price brings WAR IN PARIS (1) to the Goldfields today after eight weeks away from the track. The War Chant mare has shown ability and looks one that will appreciate firmer going which she will get today. The Dave Smith trained JEBEL MUSA (2) flew late last start when having his KBRC debut. The five year old will have the services of Lucy Warwick who may have to take a sit with barrier seven. CHANTEGO STAR (4) was a gallant last winner holding off Vonus. The lightly race six year old is an each way chance. UNWANTED LASS (7) is better than last start and should be included in novelties.

NUMBERS: 1-2-4-7

The first leg of the Quaddie has an interesting field of eight to go over the 1200m. ROADSINGER (7) looks the well weighted galloper of the field. Ignore his last start when wide throughout. He gives his all every start and will get an economic run under Clare Lindop from gate three. MOMENT OF PRIDE (2) has turned out to be a good acquisition for his local connections. The Choisir five year old will have to carry the 60kg making him slightly vulnerable today. MODERN TOUCH (5) has raced well all preparation. The Snitzel mare hit the line strongly last start. William Pike will ride the four year old today from a wide gate. Top weight PEGATEGO (1) was brilliant last start when winning at the track. The weight is the concern.

NUMBERS: 7-2-5-1

The sixth has a field of eight where the majority of the chances look to sit at the top of the weight scale. PHANTOM CHOICE (2) has been racing well in stronger company and should start favourite today. The Parnham galloper has won at the track before and has drawn well today. DARADALE (1) has been well beaten in his past couple but will enjoy a class drop today. Expect him to settle midfield or worst and do his best work late. RUN FOR RUM (3) is a horse that would appreciate a longer straight. The six year old has limited gate speed but can reel off a strong sectional. FUTURISM (5) is racing well. The long time campaigner finished second at the track two starts back.

NUMBERS: 2-1-3-5

The 2016 edition of the Hannans Handicap looks to be an interesting affair with the majority of the metropolitan fancied gallopers drawing wide for the race. The one exception is SOCIALLY UNIQUE (15) who has drawn barrier four. The Vital Equine five year old settled further back than usual last start when resuming. He is on the minimum and flattened out nicely last start in the Farnley. He has won seven from eighteen and looks the one to beat. MILITARY RULER (13) was good in the Farnley when finishing third behind Stocks. The McAuliffe trained galloper can sit on speed and run a strong 1400m out. CHECKPOINT (5) looks one that will appreciate the firmer going based on his record. He has drawn barrier one and will get an economic run. AKHEDASSET (2) must be respected at Kalgoorlie. He finished runner-up last year in the event.

NUMBERS: 15-13-5-2

The last on the card has plenty of speed engaged which may suit backmarkers if they clap the speed on. Top weight BOOM BOOM BANG (1) was good last start at the track when finishing second behind Esprit Hero. The five year old has drawn well and his one win to date has been over the 1400m. Expect him to sit behind the pacemakers. BALROV (11) will work forward early with the light weight on his back. The six year old rarely gets beaten by a big margin. Steven Parnham will be aboard once again today. FOR THE FALLEN (9) wasn’t suited by a muddling pace set last start. If the speed is on looks for the Neville Newton trained galloper to be hitting the line strongly. KALAVEDO (3) was ridden on speed last start in a masterful ride by William Pike. The five year old has drawn well and will sit prominent in running.
