Creighton Keen For Goldfields Opportunity by The Gurkha
Kalgoorlie trainers have a readymade replacement for Andrew Heffernan in Irish International Eddie Creighton. The 28 year old journeyman has ridden Group 2 and Group 3 winners in the UK, with a victory in the Group 2 Cherry Hinton Stakes at Newmarket a highlight.
Creighton has also ridden in Dubai on World Cup night, Ireland, Spain, India and Kazakhstan.
“I commenced riding in Ireland before transferring to Mick Channon at Newmarket as an apprentice”. Creighton told the Gurkha “From there I rode for my father (Eddie) who was the champion trainer in Spain.”
“Last year I rode eleven winners in India at Hyderabad that was an interesting experience”.
Creighton came to Australia in October and immediately knocked out winners in Albany, before a VISA problem kept him out of the saddle until February.
His ride on Desert Oak in the Esperance Cup was brilliant before an untimely suspension kept him on the sidelines for three weeks.
“I would love to go to Kalgoorlie for the season but hopefully I can get some good rides, boot home a few winners and get established there”.
Creighton has a strong work ethic and believes more winners come through working hard at the track than any other reason.
“Getting down to track work and keeping busy, keeps you fit and in tune with the horses.”
Former champion jockey Alana Williams is handling the bookings for Creighton who can go to scale at 54 kgs.
“Eddie has a stack of ability and is very aggressive. He is proficient with both hands and would be an ideal jockey for Kalgoorlie.” Williams said.
