Morton Double Overdue by The Gurkha

Dan Morton celebrated his first winning double of the season with Hussation and Snuff Gruffles both rewarded for consistent seasons for stable apprentice Felicty Ives.

Hussation was given the run of the race from an inside barrier by Ives to win the Lakes Electrical Handicap (1400metres) from the fast finishing Not So Vain with Master Beckett and a disappointing third.

“Felicity is a very hard worker for the stable up in Kalgoorlie and gave Hussation every possible chance. Snuff Gruffles got back into a dangerous spot and Felicity had to be patient but when the run came she sprinted like we know she can.” Morton said.

The big grey mare Snuff Gruffles appeared to be in a spot of bother looking for room down on the inside of runners before gaining a split in the straight and coming away for a soft win over Fire Side and Hazed Vision.
Morton saddled up Sweet Dane who finished third to Flying Bails while Cadia Street made up late ground to finish 7th in the same race and the efforts was better than it looked.
The double was the fourth win of the season in Kalgoorlie for Morton since opening up a satellite stable this year.
At least Kalgoorlie provided Morton with some joy after experiencing a dirty day at Belmont Park and the stable favourite Scenic Shot running down the track in the Brisbane Cup.
