Sasha Combines For A Major Win by The Gurkha
Inexperienced apprentice Sasha Starley could not have ridden Major Canny any better to win the Relph Electrical Contractors Sprint (1200 metres).
The daughter of well-known trainers Brad Graham and Helen Starley tracked the leader Siamese Cat into the race and then eased around heels to come away for a soft win.
The win was career victory 16 for Starley who has ridden three winners in ten days at Pinjarra, Carnarvon and Kalgoorlie.
The young apprentice is improving rapidly and can be expected to ride many more winners in Kalgoorlie in the future.
The return to form by Major Canny a former Horse of the Year winner was well received by his trainer Ross Craig who saddled up his second win of the year.
Craig acknowledged after the race that Major Canny was better suited at the shorter course and he had more wins left in store this season.
