McAuliffe To Return by the Gurkha
Top city trainer Darren McAuliffe was happy with his first trip back to Kalgoorlie for this season, after winning the last race of the day with Pins Of Darkness in the Apex Drilling Handicap (1100m).
McAuliffe took a team of four horses to Kalgoorlie on Sunday and had to wait until the last to salute the judge.
“Kalgoorlie is almost my third home behind Perth and Albany. I love coming up to the Goldfields and we usually win a race or two when we come up.” He said “The track played very fairly and we all had a good time up there as always.”
“I thought Jarrad rode brilliantly on Sunday but only came up with the one winner. He put Pins Of Darkness into the box seat and then found the perfect passage through them.”
“He disappointed last start but we thought he could improve and the win was a good result for the stable.”
“Dream Theatre will stay up there with Robert Brown. Some of the owners of Holy Sandgroper are in him and I’m sure he will win his races for Brownie.”
McAuliffe has been in good form of late winning races at Northam, Belmont Park and Kalgoorlie for the week.
“I would look to bring Pins Of Darkness back to Kalgoorlie and hopefully we will find one or two for the Round.”
“The stable is starting to fire again. We have a lot of smart younger horses coming back into work. We will be setting horses like Night Train, Grand Crusade, Rebel Son and Field Of Valour on WA Guineas campaigns.”
