Award Watch & Black Bookers by the Gurkha

Awards Watch
The intriguing battle for honours in the Kalgoorlie Feed Barn Leading Trainer took another twist on Sunday with Dean Nazzari pegging one back on the champion trainer Peter Fernie after preparing a double on the day.

Fernie had to wait until the last to increase his tally to 19 wins, two clear of Nazzari on 17.

Aaron Bazeley (15) was not going to be left behind and once again had an early winner on the card when the former Jimmy Taylor trained In The Mood won the first race of the day.

The winners have dried up for Dan Morton (12) in the past two weeks but his horses continue to race well.

Misty Bazeley took a strangle hold of the Office National Leading Jockey Award with her quartet of winners taking the total to 17 wins. Felicity Ives (11), Mitchell Pateman (9) Ben Patterson and Russel Hanson (7) are next best.

Ives (11) leads the Scimitar Services Leading Apprentice Award from Pateman (9), Ben Patterson (7) and Kevin Bohorun (6).
