Fitzgerald Tells Us How Its Done by The Gurkha
Ascot based trainer Brendan Fitzgerald enjoyed training his first winner for the KBRC season after Let Me Tell You won a thrilling three way finish to the GPC-Julie’s Events Maiden (1300 metres).
Ridden by former Hong Kong ace Thomas Yeung, Let Me Tell You held off Just Know and Canacksaroo with Spiritage and Golden Reward less than ˝ lengths from the placegetters.
But there was more drama to come with both second and third protesting against the winner.
However the RWWA Stewards found the result in favour of Let Me Tell You, resulting in a welcome change of luck for Fitzgerald.
The former Zimbabwean has encountered a slow start to the new season with his most recent winner Numerous Secrets winning at Belmont Park back in late June.
“I like coming up to Kalgoorlie and I understand you need a horse in good form to win up here because the locals are hard to beat.” Fitzgerald told the Gurkha “This horse has got his share of ability and his past run at Pinjarra behind Revolution gave me confidence to come.”
“The form out of the Pinjarra race was franked when Lequest won at his next start and the blinkers sharpened him up.”
“It was great for Thomas to ride his first winner for me up here. He had ridden a double at Carnarvon previous to this and he can really sit on well. Both he and Marco Chui are great lads and I have no problem putting them on anywhere.”
Fitzgerald may look at bringing Let Me Tell You and some of his other stable runners back to Kalgoorlie in the coming weeks.
