Hussation In Fine Ride From Ives by The Gurkha
Feliccity Ives continued on with her personal best season with a faultless display aboard Hussation to win the Gold Plate Catering Handicap (1300m).
Ives positioned Hussation behind the leader Danterina and rode the most patient of races, biding her time until the last 100 metres when she fired up the Dan Morton trained Hussonet gelding to spear through and capture Redhage right on the line.
“That was an excellent ride from Felicity. She was instructed to try and find that spot from her good barrier and during the race it was only going to be a matter of getting a run.” Dan Morton said. “Hussation has had a wonderful season up in Kalgoorlie and has really been a find for connections, winning three races and running four placing’s.”
The win by Hussation boosted him to overall leader in the Dr Brent Hunt Horse of the Year Award.
“Felicity continues to improve every time she goes around and I will be looking to use her in town once the Kalgoorlie season finishes.”
Ives currently leads the Scimitar Services Leading Apprentice Award with 12 wins and to win that award would be a fitting reward for effort for the young apprentice.
“Her work rate has been enormous for the stable this year. She has been the driving force behind my satellite stable up in Kalgoorlie and hopefully she can ride a few more winners and take the title.”
Morton trained his 13th winner of the season on Sunday through Hussation and looked close to another victory with Snuff Gruffles just going down to El Rijes.
“Between Dad (Len) and I we have enjoyed coming up to Kalgoorlie each Sunday. It has proven to be a smart move and we are looking forward to finishing the season off strongly over the next month.” Morton added.
