Boulder Cup Race Meeting Abandoned
The seven-race card at Kalgoorlie scheduled for Sunday was called off after senior riders deemed the track unsafe due to a wet section 50m from the finish post.
Track & Facilities Manager Steve Routledge said “Normal watering program ceased on Wednesday afternoon and an unprecedented rain event coupled with a pre existing drainage problem exacerbated this area”.
“Remedial work is being undertaken to ensure racing will go ahead Wednesday and Saturday as planned”, KBRC Chairman Steve Young said.
“A contingency plan is in place to ensure this area is well protected should any inclement weather occur in the coming week” Mr Young added.
The Goldline Distributors Boulder Cup (1760m) and the Boulder Promotion and Development Maiden (1300m) will now be run on Wednesday in conjunction with the $130,000 KBRC Hannans Handicap meeting.
There will also be a ten-race card set down for XXXX Gold Kalgoorlie Cup Day on Saturday to accommodate the horse population.
