The Early Mail - City Building Supplies Race Day - Saturday 16th April 2016

R1 COCKBURN CEMENT MAIDEN 1100m 12:55

The first of seven races has twelve maiden gallopers engaged looking for their first victory. Brett Mathews has acquired FIERACAVALLI (4) for his first start today. The four year old has had plenty of trials including two this time in and should be fit for his assignment today. The son of Trade Fair finished third in his most recent trial where he led for the majority. The time for the trial was slick compared to other heats on the day. The Rickie Brown trained BESSANNROSE (8) placed at odds last start. The four year old was beaten by a narrow margin when trying to lead throughout. Expect Natasha Faithfull to work forward on the mare early on in the event. SPIN DRIFTER (5) was sent out favourite at his most recent start when disappointing punters only grinding to the line. The three year old looks as if he may appreciate further ground however is an each way chance in this field. HERE COMES POPPY (1) has placed first up previously and should be kept safe in your novelties.

SELECTIONS 4-8-5-1

R1 CORINTHIAN DOORS MAIDEN 1300m 1:39

The second of the day is a maiden which appears to have minimal speed engaged. Last start place getter ULTIMATE SCANDAL (5) looks well suited in this field jumping from barrier six. Stephen Rowe is no stranger to success in the Goldfields and this three year old gelding looks to possess a solid turn of foot which may be prove too strong for his rivals in the run to the line. BRASCO’S BOY (2) did his best work late at his most recent run taking ground off the leading division when the race was over. The step up to the 1300m looks ideal for the Lonhro gelding who will have his eighth career start today. Three year old NINGBO (9) trialed well at the track two weeks ago. The Merv Dellar trained filly will have the claim of inform apprentice Tayla Stone combined with the advantage of barrier two. Expect the daughter of Star Witness to be stronger this time in. GIBRALTAR’S SECRET (4) produced a fair performance first up. The three year old owned and trained by Helen Harding is worth including in your novelties.

SELECTIONS 5-2-9-4

R3 CSR GYPROCK HANDICAP 1300m 2:19

A field of ten will line up in the third where there is a considerable spread in the weights. The Peter Fernie trained THIDWICK THE MOOSE (1) had a stellar season at the KBRC last season. The Fastnet Rock six year old has won first up and looks to have the class to win this event albeit the 59.5kg. Inform trainer Tracey Frizzell will saddle up FORMIDABLE STORM (9) who will go around with a featherweight of 52.5kg when taking Tayla Stone’s claim into account. The mare has a fifty percent place strike rate at the track. BRECKENRIDGE (4) hit the line strongly last start going and can improve on the effort. The four year old has saluted at the track twice. Frizzell’s other runner BEAR TRADER (6) is racing well and can place in the event.

SELECTIONS 1-9-4-6

R4 WESPINE HANDICAP 1300m 2:59

The first leg of the Quaddie is a Class Two event over the 1300m. Progressive type PLANET BLACK (7) looks a big chance after a solid first up performance. The Planet Five gelding raced just behind the pace last start and will be hard to hold out if Tash Faithfull can secure a cosy run from barrier six. Dan Morton sends KAMBALLIE (1) to Kalgoorlie today where she is well performed. The four year old will have her first run this preparation with the mare previously winning first up. Punters sent GREYSTAT (9) out favourite last start and saw the gelding’s stablemate salute. The four year old copped a check down the side of course but still hit the line fairly. Last start maiden winner ENCHANTING MISS (8) can figure once again in a tougher affair.

SELECTIONS 7-1-9-8

R5 JAMES HARDIE HANDICAP 1100m 3:39

The fifth on the card has some handy types engaged to go over the short course. DARADALE (3) has won three from nine at the track and looks one to follow this preparation based on last season. The Elvstroem gelding is well performed first up and will enjoy an economic run jumping from the inside. Top weight HIGH LIMIT (1) looks a big chance based on his last start victory at the track. Ben Kennedy will ride the six year old who is well performed over the 1100m. Last start winner LEICA HUSSY (10) has gate speed and can be expected to work forward early on. If they pace slackens on the Charles Street side of the course the mare will be hard to head. BUTTERFLY KISS (11) can perform well fresh and should be included.

SELECTIONS 3-1-10-11

R6 CITY BUILDING SUPPLIES SPRINT 1200m 4:13

Race goers are set for a treat with a competitive field of eleven to line up in the feature. The Helen Harding trained SAXON COAST (6) is a galloper than generally performs well early on his preparation. The gelding has won nine races at the track and is well weighted with the claim of Kate Witten. The Gary Bowen trained PRIVATE BUSINESS (6) was held up for the length of the straight last start where the seven year old appeared to have something to offer. The chestnut has a solid turn of foot and will enjoy a solid pace set out front. Esperance galloper OOSTERMAN (5) was impressive last start when giving the field the slip at the top of the straight. Expect the seven year old to be on pace jumping from barrier four. The son of Hurricane Sky should prove hard to beat again with 53.5kg. COMANCHE RED (1) made up significant ground late last start and should be suited to the 1200m today.

SELECTIONS 6-2-5-1

R7 MIDLAND BRICK HANDICAP 1200m 4:50

The last on the card has the biggest field of the day engaged. The Gary Bowen trained MU MU LAND (9) looks mighty hard to beat after her dominant win last start over the 1100m albeit in maiden company. The mare looks to have come back much stronger this time in. The chestnut should lead from gate two and be hard to run down. Stablemate LONGSCHAMP (5) handed in a good performance first up when finishing second. The Bletchley Park gelding also has early speed and it is anticipated that he will work forward early on. Last start winner ROAD SINGER (3) has been transferred to local trainer Paddy Bermingham Jnr. The son of Blackfriars was impressive when winning by a clear margin last start over the 1200m. Bianconi five year old KILLORGLIN (8) hit the line strongly last start and can figure in the top four in an event that has plenty of pace engaged.
